Why
We Should Invest in Solar Heating Systems
The first question many individuals ask
when inquiring about solar heating systems is
“how much will it cost?”
That answer always depends on the type of system
and how it is used. For example are you only
going to use the system to heat your swimming
pool or do you plan to heat your entire home
year around? Another factor that will influence
the cost is the geographic area. However, the
price of many solar heating systems usually
starts at approximately $2500. This price is
more than that of a conventional gas or electric
heating system, yet if you consider the rising
cost of fossil fuel the total coast of a solar
heating system is very competitive over the life
of the system.
Homes that use solar power have considerable
lower and more predictable monthly energy bills
over the course of the time they own the home.
In addition, homes with solar power have
increased resale values, often as much as the
initial cost of the system. Many homeowners also
earn between 6% and 25% savings on energy bills
depending on how much hot water they use, and
their geographic location.
Another reason why people should consider
investing in solar heating technology, is that
when they purchase a solar heating system,
whether it’s for their entire home, or just to
provide hot water, they are supporting
environmentally friendly technologies. In
addition, they are also helping to reduce
harmful emissions from fossil fuels.
Just by replacing an electric hot water heater
with a solar hot water heater, you can offset
the equivalent of approximately 40% to 100% of
the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of a mid-size
passenger car. This may not sound like much, but
CO2 traps heat in the atmosphere, which
contributes to global warming. If we could
replace fossil fuel energies with solar energy
whenever we could reduce the amount of nitrous
oxides and sulfur dioxides, which make up smog,
giving us cleaner air to breath, thus making our
world healthier for generations.
